Pixiu Slot Review — Arrows Edge

Pixiu is a 3×3 reel, 5-payline slot released by Arrows Edge on 11 December 2019. The studio, founded in 2014 and licensed in Curaçao, built Pixiu as a compact, medium-high-volatility title rather than a sprawling video slot, running on a betting range of 0.1 to 250 per spin and topping out at a maximum win of 2000x the stake. It sits closer to a classic cabinet game in structure, with the depth coming from its bonus round and free spins rather than from reel count.

Core Gameplay Experience

With only three reels and five paylines, Pixiu plays fast: each spin resolves quickly, and the reduced grid means outcomes are easy to read at a glance rather than requiring a scan across a wide 5×3 layout. This format suits players who want rapid rounds over an elaborate feature set, since the game mechanics stay simple even when the bonus round triggers.

The visual theme leans on Asian culture imagery — gold accents, red and blue color work, and the pixiu itself, a mythological Chinese guardian figure traditionally tied to wealth and fortune. Dragons and phoenix-style motifs reinforce the theme without changing how the reels behave; the symbolism is decorative rather than mechanical.

Features and Mechanics

Pixiu’s feature set covers wilds, scatter symbols, a dedicated bonus game and a free spins round. Wilds substitute for regular symbols to complete lines across the five paylines, while scatters are the trigger mechanism that opens the bonus game and free spins. On a 3×3, 5-line grid, these features carry most of the payout weight — the base game pays modestly between triggers, and the bonus round and free spins are where the bulk of the win potential sits.

RTP, Volatility and Payout Model

Pixiu runs a medium-high-volatility payout model, which means wins cluster into infrequent but potentially larger hits rather than a steady drip of small returns. A high-volatility profile is shared by 62% of the slots in our catalog (2,958 of 4,748 titles), so it places Pixiu in the more common risk band rather than an outlier. Its stated ceiling of 2000x the stake sits below the median for slots with a published max win figure elsewhere on the site, where the usual value runs closer to 2,500x.

Similar Arrows Edge Slots — Comparison

Across this group of Arrows Edge titles, elevated volatility is the shared trait, while paylines vary widely — from Ocean Life’s single line up to Secret Life of Cats’ eight. Pixiu’s five paylines land in the middle of that range, and readers who want a published RTP figure to compare against will find it only on Hot 7’s Win and Explosive Wins among these titles.

Similar Bonus-Feature Slots from Other Studios

Of these four bonus-feature slots from other studios, Money Farm 2 stands apart as the only medium-volatility option and also carries the highest RTP of the compared titles at 95.74%; the other three sit in the high-volatility band above Pixiu’s own medium-high risk profile.

How to Play Pixiu Online

Demo mode is the practical way to learn Pixiu’s pacing — how often the bonus game and free spins actually appear over a run of spins — before committing real stakes, since no free play carries the downside of a medium-high-volatility dry spell. The game sits in the broader slots category and can be tried alongside other titles through the demo game directory. Arrows Edge titles are currently offered at 22bet among the operators we track, and Arrows Edge’s wider catalog can be browsed through the Arrows Edge provider hub.

Conclusion

“Pixiu is a fast, compact medium-high-volatility slot built for players who accept dry spells in exchange for a shot at the bonus round, not for those chasing steady small wins.” — Search-Casino Editorial Team

Overall, Pixiu delivers a narrow but focused package: a 3×3, 5-payline grid, wilds and scatters that open a bonus game and free spins, and a maximum win capped at 2000x the stake. It rewards patience and a bankroll sized for its medium-high-volatility swings rather than frequent, small returns, and demo play remains the honest way to confirm whether its rhythm fits before staking real money.
